Easy answer: The JO has run out of letters for new routes!

The JO is switching to numbered routes, but will continue to list the original letter designation. For a document with the full list of changes, look here.

The switch to numbers will accommodate new routes as The JO continues planned expansion. The three digit route id will be integrated with the Metro bus so that each agency can have different blocks of numbers and a single numbering system.

  • 500 series numbers will be used for local Johnson County routes.
  • 660-699 will be used for express routes like Downtown.
  • 700 series will be reserved for commuter routes.
  • 800 series will be used for flex routes.
  • 900 series will be reserved for special designations.
